Should I use a Listener to handle hud events on a certain activity
I have an activity that allows a user to hud/animatedly swipe to the left and right to navigate through screen on my app.
These actions will all fire a hud event which can be processed by all activities. This works great.
In regards to my app architecture, should I have one activity that has a method called processHudEvent(KeyEvent key) which then triggers the appropriate event(Left, Right, Up, Down).
Would this be a reasonable approach or is it ok for all activities to handle hud events?
The singleton pattern is a good approach for this.
Keep a single instance of a HudListener and provide access to the callback methods in all other activities.
You should probably use an abstract class to add methods and variables.
In general, there is no correct answer here. You can and should do whatever suits your needs, and things may change over time.
However, for the particular case of the hud swipe gestures, it seems that you have an “inner action” on your activity that is triggered by a gesture (swipe).
In this case, one option might be to provide an interface that exposes the actions/methods that are called by the inner action, and have that “inner action” be a method on your activity. So the inner action could have a method that is called by the onTouchEvent of the activity.
Another option might be to implement your own View which can be used in your activity to act as a makeshift ViewGroup (with a hud manager) and contains the inner action. In this case the inner action would be in another class.
The first approach, however, has the advantage of being easier to use and less code for the inner action.
